Osada Kysuca, Drábsko

Settlement Kysuca

There are many places in Slovakia where you can slow down and at the same time glimpse into the times long past. One such gem is the Settlement Kysuca, in the village of Drábsko in the Horehronie region. The inconspicuous settlement tucked away in the bosom of nature conceals the charm of local traditional architecture, which makes it one of the monument reservations. You can find it on the border of the districts of Brezno and Poltár, in the surroundings of the Sihlianske Lazy mountain settlement.

The wooden houses with farmyards, the chapel of St. Anne and a small bell tower coated with blue paint have been preserved in an almost unchanged condition, mainly because the settlement was depopulated in the 1980s. Just before the entrance to the settlement of Kysuca, in the part called 'in the Valley', the remains of the Forgáč family manor house are to be found, which unfortunately has not been spared from decay. Originally, the settlement was supposed to be called Otília - after the daughter of Count Forgách, who brought woodcutters from Orava to Drábsko at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The new owners have restored the wooden houses with care, so today you can admire them or even lodge in them through the local travel agency Stey Slovakia
