Museum of Horehronie in Brezno

The Museum of Horehronie in Brezno was originally a homeland studies museum established in 1960. Today it occupies two buildings directly on the town square in Brezno - in the historical building of the former town hall and in the town house No. 13.

In addition to the more than 30 000 items that the museum preserves and exhibits, it also organises short-term exhibitions on a variety of subjects. Visitors looking for more information about the region can visit the year-round ethnographic exhibition 'Life and culture of the people in Horehronie'. The second permanent exhibition is the historical exhibition 'Brezno in the Transformations of Time' depicting the changes of the former royal city up to the period of the First World War.

The Museum of Horehronie in Brezno also includes the craftsman's homestead of a blue block printing master with a rare technical monument - a wooden mangle for the treatment of textiles, which is located on Rázusova Street No. 20 and is open to visitors at designated times after a telephone reservation.

The museum also appeals to those who love literature. The exposition Literary Brezno is located in the renovated old granary at the Evangelical parish in Brezno. A substantial part of the exposition is dedicated to the work and life of the famous Slovak politician and writer of the interwar period - Martin Rázus. Another part of the exhibition maps other important literary figures such as Ján Chalupka, Gustáv Kazimír Zechenter-Laskomerský, Ján Simonides and many others.
