Mountain hut under the King's Hill
The unused service building in the front saddle below the King's Hill has been renovated and turned into a smaller mountain hut. The front saddle is one of the places where the visitor regulations of the Low Tatras National Park allow overnight stays.
Location and access
The hut is located in Predné sedlo with an altitude of 1,451 m above sea level. It is situated on the blue trail leading from the village of Šumiac to King's Hill, about halfway up, i.e., about 1 hour and 40 minutes from the village.
From the history
The building was originally intended to serve the transmitter operators at the top of King's Hill. It also served as a garage for a snowcat. In the 1990s, with the advent of automation, it lost its purpose and fell into ruin. In 2015, the local Peter Kalman and Vlado Jambrich bought the hut and initiated its complete reconstruction. In June 2018 it was officially opened.
Accommodation and catering
The mountain hut is open every day, all year round. It provides overnight accommodation for 6 - 8 people on beds. Overnight accommodation must be arranged in advance by phone. The interior space is divided into a lounge, kitchen, room with beds, flush toilet and shower, and visitor toilets. There is also a latrine outside. The hut provides a catering service. Tea, soup (one or more kinds), craft beer Predná hora, homemade sausages, wieners, and homemade pulled strudel are on the menu. The hut is supplied with drinking water.
Other
The hut owners try to be as eco-friendly as possible, with an emphasis on minimal waste and the use of local resources. 90% of the energy is obtained from the sun, with the exception of a generator that is used in winter, and they also have a small wood-burning fireplace. The beer is local, the water comes from a well with drinking water, the mineral water is sold in glass bottles. Plastic utensils are not used, everything is served in glass and on plates. Trash is separated and brought down to the landfill.
