Chmaroššký viadukt

Unique railway engineering masterpiece

Our most beautiful and most photographed technical monument - the Chmarošská viaduct - has always been a great attraction for photographers, railway enthusiasts and tourists passing through the eastern part of the Horehronie region. It is located beyond the village of Telgárt and is visited by many people every year.

This 113.6 metre long and 18-metre-high railway bridge was built in the 1930s on the railway route 173 Červená Skala - Margecany, directly below the majestic King's Hill, and was historically the first articulated arch construction of reinforced concrete in the territory of the former Czechoslovakia.

In addition to the Chmarošská viaduct, we also recommend visiting the Telgárt viaduct, a reinforced concrete structure that reaches a height of up to 22 metres, which is 4 metres higher than its more famous sibling, the Chmarošská viaduct. It can be found just past the Telgárt Penzión railway station. The tunnel of the ingenious Telgárt Loop, also called the Tunnel of Kornel Stodola, begins at this station.
