Horehronie Railbikes
Experience a true adventure with the wind in your hair on the Horehronie railbikes – unique pedal-powered bicycles on rails! These lightweight rail vehicles operate by pedaling and are designed for a 760 mm track gauge. The railbikes run along the track of the National Cultural Monument – the Čierny Hron Railway – on the route from Hronec to the Šánske Siding and back.
Each railbike has a maximum capacity of 4 adults. Two adults must pedal at the front, and at least one of them must be of legal age. The rear seat accommodates one additional passenger, and the front seat is intended for one child. All seats are equipped with safety belts.
The main railbike depot is located near the Information Center on the main square in the village of Hronec. You can choose between a half-day or full-day trip, with the option to transfer to the Čierny Hron Railway.
Half-Day Railbike Trip
This trip includes a ride from Hronec to the Šánske siding and back (total of 10 km). Šánske is the final stop for the half-day tour. There, you’ll find a rest area with a shelter, playground equipment, and information panels. A picnic blanket is available for you to enjoy a meal surrounded by stunning nature, and you can sample regional delicacies from a picnic package available for purchase at the Information Center in Hronec before your ride.
Full-Day Railbike & Train Trip
This option includes a 10 km round trip on the railbike (Hronec – Šánske – Hronec) and a ride on the Čierny Hron Railway across two routes: Šánske – Čierny Balog, and Čierny Balog – Vydrovo/Dobroč, for up to 4 people.

Experience the unique charm of a summer evening on the rails! We’ve prepared an exciting new feature – special evening rides on the railbikes, where you can enjoy a romantic sunset followed by the magic of the night sky, far from city noise and light pollution.
With headlamps on and lights installed on the bikes, you’ll pedal a relaxing route from Hronec to the Šánske siding and back (10 km total), ending with a magical outdoor picnic and stargazing in the heart of nature.
