Experience the taste of Hron water
Telgárt is the highest located and easternmost village in the upper Hron region. Three national parks – Nízke Tatry (Low Tatras mountains), Slovenský raj, and Muránska planina (Muráň Plateau) form a trijunction here. The village was first mentioned in the records dated back to 1326, and referred to as “Tiergarten” (the “Garden of Animals” when translated from German) in the archives of the Jaeger Diocese.
Visit Telgárt to discover how water from the Hron river tastes like! Because the second longest Slovak river (298 km) springs to the surface right there, under the mountain saddle Besník, at the southeastern foothill of Kráľova hoľa, at the approximate altitude of 980 m above sea level. The river makes its way through the entire region, and is joined by tributaries from the surrounding mountains until it reaches the city of Banská Bystrica, where it turns south. The river flows into the Danube near Štúrovo (village Kamenica nad Hronom).
The spring is enclosed by a wooden fence and overlooked by a wooden shelter where you can relax with magnificent views of Kráľová hoľa and the pristine nature around. Information boards will inform you about your whereabouts and give you the basic data about the Hron river.
The spring is located next to the main road, approximately 3 km from the centre of Telgárt village. You will get there in 30 minutes.
